Satisfying a Craving at Cold Spring Pizza

Colds Spring Pizza Store FrontNext to hamburgers, hot dogs, and good old apple pie, the American food you see everywhere is pizza and take-out Chinese, the american variety of both of course. I’ve observed in my travels around our great country that it seems that just about every town, small or large, has a take-out Chinese place and a pizza parlor. Unfortunately, usually they are mediocre or worse.

I’ve passed the two we have here on Main Street in Cold Spring, and wondered, could they be the exception to the rule?  Good? The Chinese takeout, I understand is not. But when struck by an irresistible craving for a slice of pizza the other day, we decided to take a chance on this local place. We were pleasantly surprised how good satisfying three slices were… Continue reading “Satisfying a Craving at Cold Spring Pizza”

An Exciting Bourbon Cocktail with Drink More Good

Drink More Good Cocktail Casia Kreem Burbon LemonFinally got to stop by Jason Schuler’s great store in Beacon, Drink More Good, and picked up a bagful of goodies including his luscious Cassia Kream Syrup that I used to make this brilliantly simple cocktail.

In case you have been under a rock for the last few years and have not heard of Jason’s “make the world a better place” locally produced deliciously wholesome, “redefining”, soda syrups, that Martha Stewart and a whole lot of other people are raving about, let me clue you in…. Our First Dinner at Riverview Restaurant Cold Spring

Riverview View enhancedSince we first arrived in Garrison people have been encouraging us to try the Cold Spring restaurant Riverview. Since 1941 a popular destination for tourists and hikers alike, and for many loyal local patrons, especially on Wednesday “Pizza Night” when a lower priced Prix Fixe menu is offered.

On our visit this past Wednesday Riverview was busy with lots of regulars, couples, small groups and large parties. For the most part we enjoyed our dinner very much. Continue reading “Our First Dinner at Riverview Restaurant Cold Spring”

Motown Rocks and Japanese Delights at Quinn’s in Beacon

Quinns Beacon Dining Room

After getting a taste of  Yukie Schmitz’s fine home-style Japanese cuisine at a Manitoga event this past Saturday, we could not wait to get to the restaurant her husband Tom and she opened recently in the old Quinn’s Luncheonette in Beacon — for more!

Last night they were also hosting a Motown DJ which was great incentive too, we loved both. Or should I say everything! Fabulous Japanese small plates and noodle dishes, great booze, and sweet music. All in a place with classic atmosphere and great staff. Continue reading “Motown Rocks and Japanese Delights at Quinn’s in Beacon”

Tasty Eats at CathyShack Fiskkill

CathyShack Menu

I spotted this cute little food truck while shopping at the fabulous Willow Ridge Nursery a week ago. It looked so inviting I just had to give it a try. Stopped by for lunch, tried three tasty dishes and was quite happy.

Cathy, who runs her lunch place 7 days a week, also a farmers market come July, makes a special effort to serve a fresh seasonal menu of good homemade foods. There are delicious fresh salads, tangy chili, Mexican delights, a really good hot dog, the most heavenly corn bread you will ever eat and more. The blackboard menus change daily, but you can count on finding something you’ll like. Continue reading “Tasty Eats at CathyShack Fiskkill”
