We created this cocktail
for a small dinner party this past Friday evening. Made with all local ingredients, almost.
From the Hudson Valley, Millbrook Distillery, Founders Rye; The Hudson Standard, Apple Coriander Maple Shrub, Dutch’s Spirits, Prohibitters. and from Jerez, Spain, Lustau Amontillado Los Arcos Sherry.
Fabulously delicious.
We got inspired to make this drink when we found the Hudson Standard Shrub at the Cold Spring General Store which carries a whole line of exquisite cocktail ingredients, tools and glassware.
A Shrub as a drink is a fruit sweetened vinegar-based syrup that dates back to the Colonial period which makes it a very appropriate component to a Hudson Valley inspired cocktail. There are many, perhaps infinite, varieties. You can use Shrubs for all sorts of drinks and dishes.
This Apple Coriander Maple made a perfecting pairing with the rich flavors of the Millbrook Rye. A fine Dry sherry and the bitters completed the drink.
Recipe:
- 1 1/2 oz Millbrook Founders Rye
- 3/4 oz Hudson Standard, Apple Coriander Maple Shrub
- 1/2 oz Lustau Amontillado Los Arcos Sherry
Stirred over ice and served up in a Martini glass with 2 drops Prohibiters and a slice of lemon.
